Motion Graphics – Exercises

https://vimeo.com/269288563

This video contains a compilation of 5 exercises and tests in Adobe After Effects CC.

Clip #1 – A basic test of the color key function. By choosing a color and removing the background of an animated image, it allows one to place another asset behind. For the purpose of this it became a dancing skeleton in space.

Clip #2 – A quick particle study to help test motion and gravity of a piece. Using a shape layer as a base and the AE particle system, I set a motion track to a null object and attached it to the particle emitter to give the illusion of movement.

Clip #3 – A mixture of composition layering and the puppet tool. Using multiple composition layers can lead to an array of interesting outcomes and overall makes it easier to edit back.

Clip #4 – Originally a still image later separated in photoshop, the puppet pin tool was used to create a sense of motion and depth. Color Keying was used on a green screen explosion for extra effect.

Clip #5 – A test playing with the concept of scale vs positioning to create a 3D plane in a 2D world. Instead of scaling to create the idea of the ship being close, it was positioned closer to give it a more realistic sense of space.
